崇祯五年十二月，我居住在西湖。接连下了三天的大雪，湖中行人、飞鸟的声音全都消失了。
这一天初更以后，我乘着一只小船，穿着毛皮衣，带着火炉，独自前往湖心亭欣赏雪景。西湖雪夜雾气弥漫，天与云与山与水，浑然一体，白茫茫一片。湖上能(清晰)见到的影子，只有(淡淡的)一道长堤的痕迹(苏堤)，一点湖心亭的轮廓，和我的一叶小舟，船上两三个人罢了。
到了湖心亭上，有两个人铺着毡席，相对而坐，一个小书童正在烧酒，酒炉中的酒正在沸腾。(那两个人)看见我，十分惊喜的说：想不到在湖中还能遇见你这样有(闲情雅致)的人。便拉着我一同喝酒。我痛饮了三大杯就告别。问他们的姓氏，得知他们是金陵人，在此地客居。
等到下船的时候，船夫喃喃自语地说：不要说相公您痴，还有和您一样痴的人啊!
